Trailer Jeep Dolly and Bridge
A trailer jeep dolly and bridge are assembled to make large tractor trailer combinations for superloads. A superload is a term designated by the states to a describe a shipment that exceeds their standard oversize and over weight dimensions. These dimensions and weights can vary quite a bit. But, whatever the requirements to meet a "superload" status one thing is for sure, these superload tractor and trailer combinations get absolutely huge. So, I thought I would talk about some of the parts required to make up some of these big combination units. The picture below is of a 17 axle combination. Let's breakdown the different parts and how they can work together to make different arrangements. First the parts are:
- Tractor
- Jeep
- Dolly
- Bridge
- Drop Deck
Jeep
Jeeps can be "stacked" so that you add 2 or 3 jeeps in row. They may have tandem wheels or tridem.
Dolly
A dolly has 2 sets of tandem axles and can be attached by jeeps or bridges.
Bridge
A bridge will join a dolly or jeep and attach the trailer. They have no wheels.
Now let's build a superload tractor trailer combination using trailer jeep dolly and bridge components.
1. Start with a tractor
2. Add a trailer jeep
3. Add a dolly
4. Add a trailer bridge
5. Add rear trailer dolly 2 and 3
6. Add rear trailer bridge
7. Add the trailer drop deck
Miss and match your trailer jeep dolly and bridge as your shipment requires and there our numerous combinations available. You might consider adding a tractor on the rear that assists by pushing as well.
